CEO Reappointment

At the March Council Meeting, council was united in its agreement to reappoint Kerryn Ellis as the Chief Executive Officer of South Gippsland Shire Council under a new five-year contract. There have been many achievements over the past four years that are testament to Ms Ellis's confident and accomplished leadership, but here are just a few highlights:

  • Under Ms. Ellis's leadership the South Gippsland community's overall satisfaction with council has increased 20 points since 2019
  • Award success has been achieved with a State Award for Planning Excellence and a LGPro Specialist Award for the Shaping South Gippsland community engagement project. This initiative helped to inform development of the Community Vision and four-year Council Plan
  • Ms. Ellis was recognised as one of the top 50 public sector women in 2021 by the IPAA, Victoria's peak public purpose sector professional association
  • South Gippsland Shire Council now has a 9.6 percent staff turnover rate; the lowest in Gippsland and one of the lowest in Victoria
  • Ms. Ellis was one of only four local government leaders nationally invited to speak at an event centred around workforce retention in local government
  • Council received national recognition for its councillor Transition Program

These are tremendous achievements and no doubt there will be many more to come. Thank you Kerryn for your work rebuilding South Gippsland Shire Council and for setting a clear, positive direction for our region and organisation's future.

Proposed annual budget

The Proposed 2024/25 Budget and Long-Term Financial Plan are now available for community review. The documents present a financially sustainable and responsible road map for South Gippsland for next year and for future years. They consider the opportunities available for our local community along with challenges such as the global economic climate, interest rate rises, escalating costs in the building industry and the cost of living.

The proposed 2024/25 Annual Budget carefully balances the needs of our local community with the delivery of services, investment in capital works and proposed initiatives such as:

  • An additional $300,000 for building maintenance. Council has responsibility for a very large portfolio of buildings for community use, which can be difficult to adequately maintain. This additional spend will help close the gap on the existing maintenance shortfall
  • $160,000 for roadside drainage maintenance spraying to help maintain shoulders and drainage to protect pavement
  • $50,000 to complete the development of a Strategic Plan for Coal Creek Community Park and Museum which aims to establish a clear vision and direction for its future

To find out more about the proposed financial documents, or to provide feedback please visit Proposed 2024/25 Budget and Long Term Financial Plan page.
