Cr Gilligan nominated for Mary Rogers Award, for protecting South Gippsland’s coastline and advancing storm surge solutions

Councillor Gilligan was nominated for the Mary Rogers Award, recognising her leadership in protecting South Gippsland’s coastline and securing $80,000 to explore innovative Venus Bay saltmarsh storm surge solutions.

Cr Gilligan's advocacy for South Gippsland's Coastline has been commended. The Mary Rogers Award celebrates notable civic leadership by women councillors in Victoria. Councillor Gilligan earned her nomination for championing the protection of South Gippsland’s precious coastline, successfully driving three motions through the Municipal Association of Victoria to urge the Victorian Government to action.

Her advocacy has also helped secure $80,000 to explore an innovative solution to coastal storm surges using the Venus Bay saltmarsh. While she didn’t take home the award this time, being nominated is a fantastic achievement and a testament to her impact.
