Baw Baw Shire awards over $109,000 in community grants supporting 13 groups’ minor capital work projects

Baw Baw Shire Council has awarded over $109,000 in Community Grants to 13 local groups, supporting minor capital works that improve facilities, sustainability, and community wellbeing across the shire.

More than $109,000 has been offered to 13 local community groups and not-for-profit organisations across Baw Baw Shire through its Community Grants Program for various minor capital work projects. The Community Grants Program Minor Capital Work category supports local community groups and not-for-profit organisations in delivering, repairing, or improving built-form asset projects at eligible community facilities and places that contribute to a sustainable, healthy, and thriving community.

Community grants boost

Baw Baw Shire Mayor Cr Dany Goss is thrilled that more than $109,000 will be going to local community groups to fund the delivery of various Minor Capital Work projects. "We have a proud history of working with community groups and volunteers to deliver the Minor Capital Work projects each and every year through our successful grant program."

"These Minor Capital Work grants truly make a difference for our hard-working community groups by supporting them to deliver much-needed upgrades, repairs and improvements to community facilities. At this week's Council meeting, we unanimously endorsed these grants and can’t wait to celebrate the completion of these projects with our community over the coming year," Cr Goss said.

Funded community projects

The successfully funded community projects include:

  • Drouin Cricket Club Inc. - $10,000 for community clubroom kitchen upgrade
  • Drouin Golf and Country Club - $5,553.15 for driving range upgrades
  • Ellinbank Football and Netball Club - $10,000 for goal barrier net to improve child safety, time efficiency and car parking (west end)
  • Hallora Recreation Reserve - $10,000 for sports oval surface conversion
  • Neerim District Community House & Men's Shed Inc. - $10,000 for BBQ and entertainment area roof cover
  • Neerim South Public Hall Reserve CoM - $6,535.65 for painting of backstage and performance dressing rooms at Algie Hall
  • Rokeby Reserve and Hall Committee - $10,000 for tennis court concrete and drainage
  • Tetoora Road Community Centre - $9,360 for additional weather protection roof cover
  • Trafalgar Truck Restorers Club - $5,000 for a hard-surface carpark for the Darnum Heritage complex
  • Victorian Railways Institute - $10,000 for VRI Artspace Warragul - ramp restoration
  • Warragul and District Kennel and Obedience Club Inc. - $2,820 for training ground surface upgrade
  • Warragul Poultry Club Inc. - $10,000 for kitchen refurbishment
  • Warranor Junior Football Club Inc. - $10,000 for seating installation at Logan Park

Community project funding

As part of the yearly program, Minor Capital Work funding of up to $10,000 is available to eligible not-for-profit community groups or organisations with an applicant cash contribution of 25% of the total grant amount. Projects could include netting behind goal posts, goal post installation, fencing, lighting upgrades, playing surface upgrades, kitchen upgrades, electronic scoreboards, painting a hall, and public seating.
