Work has progressed on Latrobe City Council's Streetscape Strategy. Following the release of the draft strategy in September 2025, community members were invited to provide feedback to help in redefining the strategy before it is finalised. Due to the high level of interest, the engagement period was extended to include email submissions up until 3 December 2025.

Streetscape strategy plan

The draft Streetscape Strategy identifies key long term cost saving opportunities and provides tailored recommendations to :

  • Improve the overall quality and appearance of public spaces
  • Focusing on areas such as increasing tree canopy
  • Beautification of streetscapes
  • Enhancing pedestrian and cyclist mobility
  • Providing consistent street amenities across the municipality
  • Efficient ongoing maintenance

Council understands there is some concern regarding the implications of the draft Strategy, specifically in relation to the potential loss of carparks in the Traralgon Central Business District.

Streetscape strategy feedback

Latrobe City Council Mayor, Councillor Sharon Gibson, is grateful for the community's contributions to the consultation following the release of the draft strategy. "We have heard your concerns regarding the potential reduction of car parks as outlined in the draft. Remember, this was only a draft that went out to the community for their feedback and that feedback is valued and will be carefully considered."

"We were delighted to see community members take such an interest in the draft Streetscape Strategy. This level of collaboration ensures that we are prioritising what you and the community want," said the Mayor.

Council Officers will now review all feedback received and identify key themes and areas for review before presenting to Council for further direction. Council will continue providing timely updates to the community as the Streetscape Strategy progresses. The consultation period has now ended, however the draft Streetscape Strategy can be viewed at Streetscape Strategy | Have Your Say Latrobe City.
