The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien has thanked the Gippsland community for its outstanding generosity following the successful handover of Christmas gifts to local charity A Better Life for Foster Kids. Mr O’Brien said the response to this year’s Giving Tree appeal has once again demonstrated the kindness and community spirit that Gippslanders are known for.

Fostering holiday joy

Mr O’Brien said, "Every year I’m blown away by the generosity of our community and this year was no exception. Thanks to the many locals who dropped off gifts, and to those who quietly slipped in donations, we’ve been able to help ensure children in out-of-home care have a special gift waiting for them on Christmas morning."

Mr O’Brien paid special tribute to A Better Life for Foster Kids founder, Heather Baird and her tireless team of volunteers who sort, wrap and deliver gifts across Gippsland and beyond. "Heather and her volunteers put in an extraordinary effort every year to bring joy to children who, through no fault of their own, face incredibly tough circumstances. The love, care and sheer hard work that goes into getting these gifts to the right families is inspiring. Gippsland is incredibly lucky to have them."

Community generosity shines

Mr O’Brien said the spirit shown by locals this year was particularly heartening, following the setback the charity experienced earlier this year when a ram raid destroyed much of its gift stock. "Seeing the community rally to help restock and support Heather’s team has been nothing short of remarkable."

"Whether you donated a toy, a gift card, wrapping paper, or made a financial contribution - please know it has made a real difference. Your generosity helps ensure that every child feels remembered and valued at Christmas," Mr O’Brien said.

Mr O’Brien said he looked forward to continuing to support the Giving Tree appeal in future years. "Gippslanders should be proud of what they’ve achieved together. Thank you for helping bring joy and dignity to children who truly deserve it." Mr O’Brien said his Sale electorate office will continue to serve as a collection point up until 4.30pm, 23 December 2025.
