Danny O'Brien celebrates Gippsland South schools receiving VicHealth Kitchen Garden grants to boost cooking and gardening education

Danny O'Brien has congratulated five Gippsland South primary schools awarded VicHealth Kitchen Garden grants, supporting hands-on cooking, gardening, and healthy eating education to build students' lifelong skills, and sustainability awareness.

The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O'Brien is celebrating a win for local schools, with five Gippsland South primary schools successful in securing a VicHealth and Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Foundation grant.

Healthy learning grants

Korumburra Primary School, Toora Primary School, Welshpool and District Primary School, Alberton Primary School and Araluen Primary School will each receive $1,500 for kitchen and garden equipment, along with a two-year membership to the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program.

Mr O'Brien said the grants will help students develop practical cooking and gardening skills while building confidence and healthy habits. "This is fantastic news for these schools and their students. Hands-on learning in the kitchen and garden gives children skills they will use for life and encourages healthy, confident choices from a young age.

"I congratulate the principals, teachers and students on this achievement. It's terrific to see our local schools leading the way in food education and making a real difference in our community. These grants will empower our kids to learn about healthy eating, sustainability, and the joy of cooking all while having fun in the garden," Mr O'Brien said. Mr O'Brien highlighted that the grants are part of a state-wide initiative by VicHealth and the Stephanie
