Bass Coast Shire Council is inviting the community to take part in an interactive Climate Action Plan Review Workshop at Berninneit in Cowes on Saturday, 25 October 2025, from 10.30am to 3.00pm. The workshop is part of the mid-term review of council's Climate Action Plan 2020-2030, offering locals the chance to reflect on what's been achieved so far, share lived experiences, and help set the priorities for the next five years of climate action across the region.

Community climate workshop

Council's Manager Sustainable Environment, Simon Woodland, said the event is about harnessing the collective knowledge and energy of the community to guide the next stage. "Bass Coast has a strong history of community-led climate action."

"This workshop is an opportunity for residents, businesses and community groups to share what matters most to them - what's working, where we can do better, and how we can continue to make meaningful progress together," Simon said.

Facilitated by a climate expert, the workshop will include group discussions, creative thinking, and opportunities to explore key themes such as energy transition, sustainable transport, waste and the circular economy, land and nature, resilience, equity and climate justice, and local leadership.

Shape climate future

Participants will also have the opportunity to help prioritise which actions and focus areas matter most for Bass Coast's future, helping Council refine the plan to ensure it reflects community aspirations and remains achievable, effective, and bold.

Mayor, Cr Rochelle Halstead encouraged the people of Bass Coast to get involved and be part of the conversation. "The first five years of our Climate Action Plan have seen incredible progress driven by community partnerships and local leadership. Now we want to hear directly from our residents and businesses about where we should focus our energy next, so that Bass Coast can continue leading the way on climate action," Cr Halstead said.

Join the workshop

The workshop will be an engaging, hands-on session - with opportunities to collaborate, share stories, and connect with others who care deeply about the future of the region. Morning tea and lunch will be provided.

If you can't make it to the workshop, you can still have your say by completing the online survey at Engage Bass Coast website. Places for the workshop are limited, and registration is essential via Engagement Workshop - Climate Change Action Plan Review Tickets, Berninneit, Cowes | TryBooking Australia.
