East Gippsland Council to consider proposed changes to Raymond Island Ferry pass system at September meeting

East Gippsland Shire Council will consider proposed Raymond Island Ferry pass changes, including extra landowner passes, renter passes, and future consultation, aiming for fairer allocation and improved functionality from 2026/27.

East Gippsland Shire Council will consider, at a council meeting on Tuesday 16 September, whether to make changes to the Raymond Island Ferry pass system. Councillors will consider a report, which makes recommendations to ensure a fair allocation of passes and improve the functionality of the system. Officers are proposing to return to a system of two fixed passes or stickers per owner of developed land from the 2026/27 financial year, as well as introducing a pass for renters at no cost.

Access pass changes

Community consultation on the new pass process is proposed this financial year, with full implementation of the new process planned for financial year 2026/27, subject to final approval. As an interim measure, officers are recommending the issue of a second pass to all owners of developed land (most currently receive one pass) plus a provision for a pass at no cost for renters.

The implementation arrangements and timeframe for these measures will be communicated within two weeks of the council decision. The report is available on the council website in the council meeting agenda. Raymond Island residents or current pass holders do not need to take any action about their current passes.
