Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has praised the Mack family and the team at Mac Waste Group in Maffra for their ongoing contribution to the Gippsland community. Founded in 2001 by Bruce Mack, Mac Waste has grown into one of Gippsland's leading waste management providers and is now operated by his sons, Paddy and Doug.

Preserving local heritage

The business recently relocated to the refurbished old Maffra train station, with the brothers committed to preserving the site's history, including works to incorporate original materials into new murals. Mr Chester visited the site and said Mac Waste stood out not only for its high-quality services and modern fleet of machinery, but also for its commitment to the community.

"Mac Waste is making a positive difference beyond its core business through local employment and training opportunities, sponsorships and fundraising campaigns, and a partnership with the Little Jem Foundation to support Gippsland families. The company is also developing a Skills Pathway Program to create future career opportunities for local youth, which is another example of how family-owned businesses are investing back into their communities.," Mr Chester said.

Supporting local businesses

During his visit, Mr Chester also met with the team to discuss some of the challenges facing the industry. "We had a wide-ranging discussion about infrastructure funding, environmental regulations, and regional development, and I appreciated the insights Paddy and Doug shared on how government decisions affect family businesses on the ground."

"Family-owned businesses like Mac Waste are the backbone of our region. I will continue to support and advocate for businesses like Mac Waste as they continue to help make Gippsland a better place to live, work and visit," Mr Chester said.

Mac Waste has proudly launched the Little Jem Foundation Toyota Prado Raffle, giving you the chance to win a brand new $90,000 Toyota Prado.
