Celebrating volunteer legends

Mr Chester said the AGL Loy Yang Traralgon International, now in its 33rd year, had become a globally recognised event on the junior tennis calendar, drawing elite young players from around the world to Gippsland.

"The Traralgon International has a proud history of showcasing future champions, with legends like Roger Federer, Nick Kyrgios and Iga Świątek all competing here before going on to global success. But just as legends emerge on the court, legends also emerge behind the scenes," Mr Chester said.

Mr Chester said the tournament’s success depended on an extraordinary team of volunteers who give countless hours to ensure the event runs smoothly. "From early mornings to late nights, volunteers are involved in everything from court preparation and officiating support to transport, administration and hospitality. Their dedication, professionalism and local pride are what make this tournament such a standout event on the international stage," he said.

Sporting community impact

Mr Chester said the event not only promoted elite sport but delivered significant benefits to the local community. "The Traralgon International brings visitors, families and teams from around the world to our region, providing a boost to local businesses, accommodation providers and hospitality venues. It also inspires young Gippslanders by showing what’s possible through sport, dedication and community support," he said.

Mr Chester thanked the Traralgon Tennis Association and all volunteers involved in delivering the event. "Thank you to every volunteer who helps make this tournament possible. Your efforts ensure this iconic event continues to showcase Gippsland on the world stage and remains a source of pride for our region," he said.
