Playground temporarily closed

The Craig Watts Park playground and skate park will be closed to the public from the 28th of January 2026 until the planned playground renewal completion date of 31st of March 2026. Temporary fencing will be placed around the skate park and the playground to the east of the footpath while works are underway.

The public restroom facilities, car park and the small playground including the swing set to the west of the footpath will remain open while the temporary fencing is in place. Once the site re-opens to the public following the completion of the works, the ageing swings and small playground to the west of the existing footpath will be removed. These playground renewal works will be provided as part of Baw Baw Shire Council’s Playground Renewal Program.

Playground renewal begins

Baw Baw Shire Mayor, Cr Kate Wilson, is excited to see the works begin. "Each year, Council's Playground Renewal Program sees playgrounds across Baw Baw refreshed with new equipment, safety improvements and minor landscaping to improve the experiences of residents and visitors of all ages. The Craig Watts Park playground in Neerim South was identified as part of this program and the community were invited to contribute to the conversation around the new playground design."

This local playground has served the community for over 20 years and has now come to the end of its lifecycle. Through the planning and consultation period Council officers visited Neerim South Primary School early in the planning process to hear from local students, ahead of providing the community with the opportunity to give their feedback on the concept designs.
