Danny O'Brien urges Gippsland sporting clubs to register for the Get Active Kids Voucher Program, supporting families with up to $200 per child for sports fees, uniforms, and equipment.

The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O'Brien is encouraging local sporting clubs and organisations to register to become providers under the Get Active Kids Voucher Program. Mr O'Brien said that while clubs can register now, applications for families to access vouchers of up to $200 per child will open next month.

Eligible children aged 0 - 18 with valid concession and Medicare cards may receive up to $200 for sports fees; applications reopen October for Round 9

Supporting kids' sports

Mr O'Brien said, "With cost-of-living pressures making it harder for families to afford fees, uniforms and equipment, this program offers a little bit of support to keep kids involved in the sports they love." To be eligible, clubs must be affiliated with a recognised State Sporting Association or State Sport and Active Recreation Body.

Mr O'Brien acknowledged that this meant not all local clubs were able to register under the scheme. "I'm aware some groups, such as dance studios and other smaller providers, can't sign up as registered providers due to the program's rules. However, I encourage those clubs to make sure their participants know they may still be eligible for reimbursement through the program as an alternative to using a voucher," he said.

Keeping kids active

Mr O'Brien added, "Keeping kids engaged in sport is good for their health and wellbeing, and it also supports our local clubs who rely on strong membership to survive." Two rounds of the program will run in 2025-26 - the first opening in October, followed by another in February 2026.

The vouchers are available for children up to 18 years old who are named on a Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card and a Medicare Card. A special consideration stream is also available to support children in care, temporary or provisional visa holders, migrants and international students. Clubs and organisations eligible to register as providers can do so now at Get Active Victoria website.
