Remembrance and support

Mr O'Brien said the poppy has long stood as a symbol of remembrance and hope and that by supporting the Poppy Appeal, Gippslanders can help make a real difference in the lives of veterans and their families.

"Each November we pause to remember the courage and sacrifice of those who've served our nation. The Poppy Appeal is about more than remembrance, it is about standing beside those who've worn the uniform and ensuring they receive the care and support they deserve," Mr O'Brien said.

Poppy appeal support

Funds raised through the Poppy Appeal help provide vital assistance to veterans and their families, from mental health and housing support to employment services and community programs. Mr O'Brien said he was reminded of the importance of such support during his recent visit to the newly refurbished Gippsland Veterans Centre in Sale.

"The centre provides invaluable advice, support and referral services to the 3,000 to 4,000 veterans living across the Wellington Shire. It was wonderful to see the refurbished facilities, which have given new life to a service that so many rely on. My congratulations go to Chair Michael Page, Kylie Willmot, the Sale RSL and everyone involved in making this project a success," he said.

Mr O'Brien said Remembrance Day also provides a moment for quiet reflection. "Whether it's at a local service or during a simple pause at 11am, I hope we can each take a moment to remember and give thanks," Mr O'Brien said.
