Wellington Shire Council is calling on young people aged 12–24 who live, work or study in Wellington to nominate for the 2026 Wellington Shire Youth Council (WSYC) - a diverse, energetic advisory group that delivers projects and campaigns, advocates on youth issues, and provides advice to Council throughout the year.

Wellington Shire invites 12-24-year-olds passionate about youth wellbeing to apply, encouraging diversity, inclusion, and representation from Aboriginal, LGBTIQ, disabled, multicultural, student, employed, and parent communities

Youth leadership opportunities

From creative programs to inclusion and wellbeing, Youth Councillors help shape a more connected Wellington. In recent years, WSYC has supported initiatives such as the Wellington Youth Art Prize and Live4Life, and hosted youth engagement forums across the Shire.

Wellington Shire Council Mayor Cr Scott Rossetti encouraged nominations from every corner of the Shire. "Youth Council is where ideas turn into action. If you’re passionate about your town, care about inclusion and wellbeing, or want to learn how local decisions get made, this is your chance to lead, learn and make a real difference," Cr Rossetti said.

Drawing on Council’s induction approach, WSYC’s program welcomes new Youth Councillors into a supportive, two-year journey focused on community participation, leadership and representing the voice of local youth.

Youth Mayor and other leadership roles are elected following induction, and sessions are structured to make participation easier for young people balancing school, study, work or family commitments.
