Danny O'Brien slams Labor's repeated 'Better Roads Blitz' claims as Gippsland roads continue crumbling
Nationals MP Danny O'Brien has slammed Labor's latest "Better Roads Blitz," saying Gippsland roads remain neglected, unsafe, and underfunded, with locals enduring potholes, hazards, and long-term speed reductions instead of real maintenance.
The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O'Brien, says local drivers won't be fooled by yet another Allan Labor government announcement of a so-called "Better Roads Blitz". Mr O'Brien said Gippslanders know all too well that road conditions are getting worse under Labor, not better.
Danny O'Brien says Gippsland roads worsen under Labor despite repeated "Better Roads Blitz" promises, leaving locals dodging potholes, vehicle damage, and frustrated by recycled announcements
Roads neglected again
Mr O'Brien said, "Labor has been rolling out these media campaigns promoting 'blitzes' every year, but anyone driving our local highways can see the neglect for themselves. We've heard the same promises every year for almost a decade and yet our local roads are still crumbling. Gippslanders are left dodging potholes and damaging their vehicles while Labor puts out another recycled press release."
Mr O'Brien, who is also the Shadow Minister for Roads and Road Safety, said figures from the independent Parliamentary Budget Office show Victoria is spending $1,500 less per kilometre on road maintenance than the national average. "It's no wonder our roads are in such a parlous state. Our roads need maintenance, not more spin."
Mr O'Brien said the South Gippsland Highway between Leongatha and Korumburra is just one example of a road locals are fed up with. "This section has been subject to long-term speed reductions and hazard warnings for years. Labor can't manage roads and Gippsland road-users are paying the price every day."
