Latrobe City Council extends partnership with Tennis Australia to host 2027-2031 junior championships

Latrobe City Council will host the 2027–2031 AGL Loy Yang Traralgon Junior International, showcasing elite under-18 tennis, supporting the community, and strengthening the region’s reputation for world-class sporting events.

Latrobe City Council is pleased to reaffirm its partnership with Tennis Australia to host the 2027–2031 AGL Loy Yang Traralgon Junior International Tennis Championships. This much-loved tournament is a highlight of Latrobe City's sporting calendar, bringing together competitors from more than 35 countries. As one of the most prestigious events on the World Tennis Tour Junior circuit, it attracts the best under-18 players from across the globe.

Showcasing junior talent

Held annually in Traralgon, the tournament is a key lead-in to the Australian Open Junior Championships each January, offering a high-performance platform for rising stars. Now in its 33rd year in Traralgon, the world-class event spans 14 days and features more than 150 elite junior athletes.

Latrobe City Council Mayor, Councillor Sharon Gibson, said she was proud to see the tournament continue its legacy in Traralgon. "The event not only showcases brilliant junior tennis talent but also shows Latrobe City's reputation as a premier destination for international sporting events."

"Our long-term partnership with Tennis Australia also delivers significant benefits to the local community. We look forward to welcoming athletes, coaches and families from across the world to our region," said the Mayor.

Tennis legacy continues

Francis Soyer, Head of Competitive Play and Professional Events at Tennis Australia thanked Latrobe City Council, the Traralgon Tennis Association and community for their ongoing support of the event. "We are grateful to be able to host this inspiring annual event for another five-year period."

"By the end of the next agreement, we will be close to a 40-year association with the event in Traralgon and there are not many tournaments on the World Tennis Junior Tour calendar that can promote that length of commitment in supporting the future generation of international tennis stars," said Mr Soyer.

Tennis brings community

A much-loved community event, the AGL Loy Yang Traralgon International enables so many volunteers of all ages to play an integral part of the tournament. "The event brings the community together, showcasing world class tennis in the Latrobe Valley leading up to the Australian Open," said Traralgon Tennis Association Manager, Susie Grumley.

Traralgon Tennis Association President, Cameron Herbert thanked Tennis Australia and Latrobe City for entrusting us with this further five-year commitment. "Securing the event for a further five years helps propel our exciting plans for the re-development of our clubhouse and player facilities, solidifying the ongoing legacy of this wonderful world class event in Traralgon", said Mr Herbert.
