Adding Your News

Are you looking for a platform on which to address the online Gippsland community? You can publish press releases, local news and reviews and have your say, all right here on the Gippsland Portal. How? There are two methods of creating content for publication on the Gippsland Portal.

Fastest and simplest method
Emailing us the Word document

Write your article in a word processing program such as Microsoft Word. If you have e-mail installed on your PC such as Microsoft Outlook Express or Outlook, then attach the Word document to the email and send it to news@gippsland.com .We will publish the article for you.

If you do not have a mail program installed on your PC, simply send the document as an attachment or plain text via your normal e-mail account (such as Hotmail). Type news@gippsland.com into the To… textbox and we will publish the article for you.

Don’t forget to include details such as your name, article title and a brief summary (approx. 10-15 words) that describe the article.

Be a web master

To do so you will need to become a member of the Gippsland Portal and obtain a .WEB passport. It is free, and all you require to join is an e-mail address. Go to the Become A Member page to begin.

Check your e-mail account for your personalized .WEB passport password. In a new window, go to the Gippsland Portal website and click on the Log In button at the top right hand side of the screen.

• Click on news tab (below the Gippsland Portal icon, second from the left in the top left hand corner of the screen).
• Below your e-mail address and the ‘Items’ heading you will see two icons. Click on the page icon on the left hand side of the 'New' link.
• A form will load on the screen. In the category menu, select the category that the news article is most applicable to (eg. 'Sports').
• Go to the 'Title' textbox and type in the article's title.
• Go to the 'Author' textbox. You may click on this box and enter the author's name (or your own).
• Go to the ‘Brief Description’ textbox and type in a 10-20 word outline of the article. Think of lines that will capture the reader’s attention and entice them to read your article.
• Click on the ‘Edit News Article Content’ link.
• In another window, (CTRL + N) open the current newsletter as a Word document. Click the cursor in the Word window and press CTRL + A to select and highlight all text. Press CTRL + C to copy the content in the Word document.
• Return to the first window. Click the cursor onto the white box. Press CTRL + V to paste the content from the Word Document into the form. Please make sure that you do not use offensive language, practice good grammar (such as no ALL CAPITALS) and read over the article to ensure that it makes sense.
• Press CTRL + A to highlight all of the text in the white box. On the second row of the icons at the top of the ‘Content Editor’ box, click on the very last icon. This will re-format the content from Word style to a format suitable for the Internet.
• While all of the text is still highlighted, click on the eighth icon in the top row (ALT + W) to left align the content.
• Save the article by clicking on the diskette icon at the top left hand side of the content editor.
• Scroll to the base of the form and click the ‘Save’ button.
• You will notice that your article is now listed at the bottom of the page. You can click on this link to edit or update the article if you need to.

Where do I log-on to add news?

Residents of the various areas within Gippsland may wish to publish information (such as news, jobs and events) that is specific to their local region. To do so, go to the respective local portal, log on as a member (see the top-right of the screen) and enter your articles there.
Alternatively, you may have an article that is applicable to the entire Gippsland audience. In this case, publish your article on the Gippsland Portal page (www.Gippsland.com).

Where will news articles appear?

If you want to publish your news article across Gippsland:
Login into http://gippsland.com/ and publish your news articles under the categories of General or Sport. The item will appear on the Gippsland Portal and also within any related sub-portals.

The article will not display on the website until it has been approved by an administrator.
