The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O’Brien is encouraging local residents to take advantage of a free blind safety kit offered by Consumer Affairs Victoria to help prevent accidents in the home. Each kit contains five plastic safety devices, screws and instructions to secure blind and curtain cords.

Free blind safety kits contain 10 curtain/blind cord safety devices and 10 screws for use on wooden window frames. Contact your local hardware or curtain/blind retailer for advice on fitting the device to other types of window frames

Mr O’Brien said, "Unsecured cords are a serious hazard that claim the lives of up to two Australian children every year. Securing your cords is a simple action that can save your child’s life." Residents can request a kit online via Consumer Affairs Victoria website.

Mr O’Brien advised help is available for those without internet access through his electorate office located at 54B Cunninghame Street, Sale, where staff can help complete the online form. "Home safety is something every family should take seriously. I encourage all Gippslanders with blinds or curtains to secure their cords and take advantage of this free kit to protect children in their homes," Mr O’Brien said
