The Forge Theatre's school holiday season features The Velveteen Rabbit, Polite Mammals, and The Heartbreak Choir, offering family fun, comedy, and heartfelt community spirit with something for everyone to enjoy.
From treasured childhood tales to riotous comedy and heartwarming community spirit, The Forge Theatre is serving up a school holiday season packed with shows for everyone. Families and theatre lovers alike can enjoy three unforgettable productions filled with laughter, music, and a touch of magic.
$5 from each opening night ticket supports Bairnsdale Neighbourhood House, as Forge Theatre unites East Gippsland through inspiring performances this season
Family theatre season
The season kicks off with The Velveteen Rabbit from acclaimed physical theatre company Born in a Taxi on Tuesday 30 September. This thoughtful, hilarious, and beautifully reimagined 100-year-old classic comes to life with live music, projections, and playful audience participation. Kids are encouraged to bring their favourite snuggly toy, who will be the special VIP guest at this charming show where the toys take centre stage.
Next, don't miss Polite Mammals on Friday 3 October. Inspired by 90s Aussie kids' TV, this wildly inventive variety show rockets along with farting skunks, a dancing praying mantis, Frankenstein cockroaches, and even a singing bin chicken. Featuring puppetry, dance, original music, and cheeky mischief, this all-ages romp delivers Aussie family comedy at its silliest and most fun.
Heartbreak choir performance
For adults, local Bairnsdale Production Theatre Company Inc presents The Heartbreak Choir on Friday 17 October. A funny, uplifting, and deeply moving play about friendship, music, and the healing power of community, it follows five women in a small-town CFA hall as they sing, share stories, and support one another through life's ups and downs. Described as a warm-hearted hug of a show, it's a joyful celebration of community and song.
On opening night, $5 from every ticket will be donated to the Bairnsdale Neighbourhood House. The Forge Theatre is where East Gippsland comes together to be inspired, entertained, and moved.
