Bass Coast Shire Council has officially adopted its Annual Report 2024 - 2025, marking the completion of another year of progress, community connection, and achievement across the region. Each year, council's Annual Report tells the story of what's been delivered across Bass Coast: from the roads we drive on and the parks we enjoy, to the libraries, planning, events and services that keep our towns thriving.

The 2024 - 2025 Annual Report highlights Bass Coast's achievements under the 2021 - 2025 Council Plan and outlines the region's future direction through the new 2025 - 2029 Council Plan

Celebrating progress together

The 2024-2025 report captures the final year of the 2021 - 2025 Council Plan, marking the closing chapter of this important strategic period. It also looks ahead to an exciting new era, with council having recently adopted the Community Vision 2045 and Council Plan 2025 - 2029 which set the strategic direction for the next four years.

Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Rochelle Halstead said the Annual Report not only celebrates what's been achieved but also recognises the collaboration and commitment behind it. "It's been an incredible first year for our new council."

"And this Annual Report is a chance to celebrate the work of our community, our staff, and the previous council who laid the foundations for many of these achievements. While it's sad to see the closing chapter of the 2021-2025 Council Plan, I'm excited for what's to come," she said.

Delivering outstanding results

So, what's inside the report? You might be surprised by just how much your council delivers in a single year. Did you know that for every 10,000 kerbside bins in Bass Coast, only 1.14 are missed on collection day - an improvement from last year's 2.7? Or that our sealed local roads satisfaction rating has risen to 52, putting Bass Coast 13 points above the average for large rural councils?

If you're a book lover, you'll be pleased to know that over 62% of our library provider's collection has been refreshed in the past five years, so if you haven't visited your local MYLI- My Community Library, now's a great time to become a member!

Planning services also saw major improvements, with the median time to decide planning applications dropping from 127 days to 95 days, and 76.75% of applications decided within the required timeframes, a reflection of streamlined systems and new ways of working.

Highlights and achievements

Other highlights from the year include:

  • Securing $8 million for the Cowes Foreshore Precinct improvements
  • Supporting a wide range of events, with over 420,000 attendees

Delivering a Capital Works program spend of $27.73 million, including:

Inverloch to Wonthaggi Trail

Inverloch Jetty construction

Glen Forbes Road culvert upgrade

Renewal of culverts and pavement at Berry's Beach Road

Stage 2 of Rhyll Boat Ramp seawall replacement

Cowes Senior Citizens Club Hall roof renewal

Celebrating community and business awards

Marking 100 years of the Wonthaggi Union Community Arts Centre

With plenty of photos, highlights and easy-to-read summaries, it's a great way to see where your rates go, what's been achieved, and what's next for our growing community. The Annual Report 2024 - 2025 is now available to read at Bass Coast Annual Reports website.
