South Gippsland Remembrance Day services to held in various locations and other council updates

South Gippsland marks Remembrance Day on 11 November with local services honouring veterans. Plus, free green waste disposal, festive giving initiatives, business support, community events, and engagement opportunities across the region this spring.

Remembrance Day is on Tuesday, 11 November. On this day, we pay respect and pause for one minute to remember the service and sacrifice of our veterans and current serving personnel.

Here is a list of services happening around South Gippsland on the day:

  • Foster - 11.00am at the Cenotaph (March at 10.00am from the Foster Historical Society - 9 Main Street Foster
  • Korumburra - 10.45am at the Coleman Park Cenotaph
  • Leongatha - 10.40am at the Memorial Hall Cenotaph
  • Meeniyan - 10.45am at the War Memorial
  • Mirboo North - 10.30am at the RSL
  • Nyora - 10.30am at the Nyora Cenotaph
  • Toora - 10.50am at the Toora Cenotaph

Council's Green Waste Amnesty runs from 1 November to 31 December, offering free green waste disposal to help residents prepare for fire season

Green waste amnesty

Dispose of green waste for free at any Council transfer station until 31 December. Prepare for the fire-season by clearing your gutters and removing dry leaves, branches and any other potential fire hazards from around your property. Be mindful that some plants aren't accepted during the amnesty. For more information and to view the list of excluded plant species, please visit the South Gippsland Shire Council website.
H2:Christmas giving tree
The Salvation Army's Christmas Giving Tree aims to support families doing it tough this Christmas by collecting and delivering non-perishable food items, new, unwrapped gifts, or gift-cards. Donate these items under the Christmas Giving Tree at Council's main office at 9 Smith Street, Leongatha, by 4.00pm on Tuesday 2 December. We will pass the donations on to the Salvation Army Leongatha for local families in need. To find out more, visit the Salvation Army website.

On-farm kangaroo control rebate

Farmers operating on pasture impacted by kangaroos consuming pasture and crops can apply for this rebate program now. Eligible farmers across Victoria who hold an Authority to Control Wildlife (ATCW) can hire authorised professional harvesters who have accreditation from the Game Management Authority and access up to 3 rebates of $450 each (ex-GST) with a 25% co-contribution to help control kangaroos.
