The committee comprises the Gunyah Ward Councillor, Cr Ed Vermeulen and one additional Latrobe City Councillor, Cr Bruce Lougheed, and one representative each from the Environment Protection Authority Victoria, the West Gippsland Catchment Management Authority, Gippsland Regional Waste Management Group, Loy Yang Power, Department of Sustainability and Environment.

Additionally, up to five community members and technical experts are appointed for three year terms.

Currently, the community representatives are Mr Ian Ewart and Mrs Lynette Van Vondel (reappointed) and Mr Chris Madsen and Mr Ted Addison (newly appointed). The technical experts are Dr Dilip Nag (reappointed) who has extensive experience in civil engineering and waste management; and the newly-appointed Mr Michael Adams whose field is commercial waste management and treatment.

Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Darrell White, said that it was pleasing that new community members had volunteered their time to ensure a broad representation on the committee.

"It is important that the community at a local level are represented across council’s many and varied committees as we value all feedback. For a committee such as this one, the mix of technical expertise and local knowledge is vital.

"The primary role of the Committee is to act as both advocate and sounding board for the community and other stakeholders, bringing to the attention of Latrobe City Council any issues that may arise during the construction of works and in the operation of the premises.

They also act as a channel of communication between the community, stakeholders and Latrobe City," Cr White said.

Gunyah ward councillor, Ed Vermeulen said that the role of the committee was one of communication, through reporting and feedback.

"The committee reports to council in June and December, relaying its overall operations. We appreciate the time and effort our volunteer committee members put in over the course of their tenure, providing council with advice, and keeping it abreast of environmental reports, studies and the like.

"Latrobe City Council values the input and the commitment made by the members. Their comments and views ensure council can make informed decisions on issues arising from the operation of the landfill," Cr Vermeulen concluded.
