Work is progressing well to improve safety for motorists and pedestrians on the western approach to Lakes Entrance, with a new pathway set to be popular with locals and visitors. Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester (pictured) secured the majority of the $2 million funding from the previous Federal Government and says work should be completed before the Christmas peak period.

Mr Chester said, "Obviously, there’s significant disruption to traffic at the moment with the Princes Highway reduced to one lane during the day, but the work crews have made great progress on the new pathway, along with the safety works on the Kalimna hill intersections. We’ve been waiting years for this project as the state government refused to provide a share of the funding, but that is behind us and I’m pleased to see the improvements taking shape."

The project includes a new asphalt walking path, upgraded safety barriers, and intersection improvements designed to improve pedestrian safety and traffic flow on the main approach to Lakes Entrance, which features iconic views of the Gippsland Lakes and 90 Mile Beach.

"These works are already making a visible difference, and once completed, we will have a much safer and more attractive entrance to town. This is a huge improvement for locals and visitors, particularly for walkers and runners who use the pathway alongside the highway for exercise," Mr Chester said.
