South Gippsland animal registration renewals due on 10 April and other council projects update

Autumn 2026 update: renew pet registrations by April 10, book flu and MMR vaccinations, bid on impounded vehicles, attend council events, workshops, grants, and local community programs across South Gippsland.

Now is the time to renew your pet's registration! Making sure your pet is microchipped, registered with Council and wearing a valid registration tag means that they can be returned to you as quickly as possible if they go missing.

To register or renew your pet’s registration please ensure that they are over three-months old and microchipped. Registrations can be completed online or in-person at our Customer Service Counter in Leongatha, open from Monday to Thursday from 9.00am to 4.00pm. Renewals are due 10 April and new pet registrations can be placed all year round. For more information, visit South Gippsland Shire Council website.

Flu and MMR immunisations

It's time to get your 2026 Flu shot, and check if you need a second Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR) dose. Free MMR vaccines are available to anyone who may not have received two doses previously. Groups at risk include:

  • Anyone born during or after 1966 who does not have documented evidence of receiving two doses, or serological evidence of immunity
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People
  • International migrants without documented vaccination history, including asylum seekers, refugees and international students
  • People travelling overseas or returning home to Australia - infants as young as six-months-old can have the vaccine prior to travel

No Medicare Card is required to access a free vaccination. To book in at one of Council’s community immunisation sessions, visit the Immunisation page.

Vehicles for sale

Council impounded the following vehicles in accordance with Schedule 11 of the Local Government Act 1989. As these vehicles have not been collected and relevant fees paid within 14 days of impoundment, the vehicles are now being offered to the public for sale:

Volvo flat floor bus

  • Picked up from Dykes Road, Ruby (impounded 10 February 2026)
  • Colour: White
  • Year: 2013
  • Offers close 2.00pm 3 April 2026

Nissan station wagon

  • Picked up from Farmers Road, Dumbalk (impounded 5 November 2025).
  • Colour: White
  • Year: 2016
  • Offers close 2.00pm 11 April 2026

Managing landslip on farms

Kids Voucher Program - Round Two Closing Soon

This Get Active Victoria program aims to help eligible families get their kids involved in sport and other active recreational pursuits. If your child is eligible, you may get up to $200 off the cost of membership and registration fees, uniforms or equipment.

To be eligible your child must be aged 18 years old or younger and be named on a Medicare Card and a valid Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card. Applications close on 2 April at 10.00am. To know more, visit Get Active Victoria website.

This program provides funding for community sports clubs and recreation groups across Victoria. to address barriers to participation, for projects including:
