Darren Chester celebrates completion of $2M Swifts Creek Recreation Reserve redevelopment ahead of grand final
Darren Chester welcomed the $2 million Swifts Creek Recreation Reserve redevelopment, delivering modern facilities, improved amenities, and new courts, officially opening September 6 as the community hosts its first grand final in 25 years.
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has welcomed the completion of the $2 million Swifts Creek Recreation Reserve redevelopment, which will be officially unveiled on Saturday, September 6, as the club hosts its first grand final in 25 years.
The Swifts Creek Recreation Reserve redevelopment, which Darren Chester secured $1.92 million in funding for from the former Coalition government, will be officially unveiled on Saturday, 6 September 2025
Investing in communities
Mr Chester successfully secured $1.92 million in funding from the former Coalition government's Local Economic Recovery Program, working closely with the community to deliver the project in partnership with additional support from the Victorian government.
"I was proud to work alongside the local community to secure funding for this much-needed redevelopment. This investment has delivered vital community infrastructure that will provide long-term health, wellbeing and social benefits for the people of Swifts Creek and surrounding areas," Mr Chester said.
Upgraded sporting facilities
The $2 million upgrade has transformed the Recreation Reserve into a modern, accessible, and fully compliant facility, delivering brand-new changerooms, umpire rooms, public amenities, and a multipurpose room, as well as new competition-compliant netball and tennis courts.
"These modern facilities will support local sporting clubs, players, volunteers and families, catering to the growing needs of the Swifts Creek community for years to come. The redevelopment managed by East Gippsland Shire and undertaken by East Gippsland-based Design Co Builders commenced at the end of last year and marks a significant investment in the region's sporting and social infrastructure."
"The official opening will be an incredible celebration for the community, and it's fitting that it coincides with Swifts Creek hosting its first grand final in a quarter of a century," Mr Chester said.
