Danny O'Brien slams Labor for funding maintenance at Sale College instead of new campus
Danny O'Brien has criticised Labor for allocating $273,175 in maintenance to Sale College, arguing funds should instead deliver the long-promised new consolidated campus the community has campaigned for since 2017.
The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O'Brien, says the Allan Labor government is once again wasting taxpayer money on short-term fixes at Sale College instead of delivering the new consolidated campus the community has been calling for.
The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O'Brien says the Allan Labor government need to get on with funding a new consolidated campus for Sale College
Sale College upgrade
Mr O'Brien said this week the government announced more than a quarter of a million dollars will be provided to Sale College through its 2025-26 Planned Maintenance Funding program. "That's $273,175 being poured into tired, outdated buildings when we should be focusing on getting on with the job of building a brand new school."
"While something is better than nothing, it is deeply disappointing that the clear wishes of the school community are being ignored. It beggars belief that instead of getting on with the job and delivering a modern, consolidated Sale College campus, Labor continues to throw good money after bad. The land is there, the master plan is done and the community is ready," Mr O'Brien said.
Sale College priority
Mr O'Brien said he had been campaigning with the Sale College community and Wellington Shire Council since 2017 for a new school on one site. "This is a shovel-ready project that must be funded as a priority.
"We've seen too many projects delayed, only to suffer cost blowouts from inflation down the track. I don't want to see that happen here. Instead of bandaid maintenance spending, the Allan Labor government should commit the funds to finally deliver the new Sale College campus," Mr O'Brien said.
