The Federal Member for Gippsland has unofficially opened the Kalimna to Lakes Entrance path after work was completed before the peak Christmas period. "It has taken longer than we hoped after I secured $2 million from the federal government more than four years ago, but we finally have a better path with a surface which is safer for runners and walkers," Mr Chester said.

Thousands of locals and visitors have taken advantage of pedestrian safety improvements to one of the most popular walking paths in East Gippsland, according to local MP Darren Chester

Mr Chester said, "The work crews did a great job to get the project finished before the holiday rush, and I have had dozens of people tell me they are enjoying the better path, which provides an excellent circuit along the rock wall to Kalimna Jetty. After we funded the improvements to the steps up the hill, it was important to get the highway project done for the benefit of locals and visitors."

The project included a new asphalt walking path, upgraded safety barriers, and intersection improvements designed to improve pedestrian safety and traffic flow on the main approach to Lakes Entrance, which features iconic views of the Gippsland Lakes and 90 Mile Beach.
