Latrobe Regional Gallery’s Autumn 2026 season opens 7 February, featuring five exhibitions exploring migration, heritage, identity, environment, and connections to place, including works by Lucy Hersey and Janina Green.

Latrobe Regional Gallery is excited to announce its Autumn 2026 exhibition season, opening with a special launch on Saturday 7 February 2026 at 4pm. This vibrant program brings together five beautifully curated exhibitions that explore migration, identity, heritage, environment and our deep connection to place.

Home and country

Unpacking Home (Gallery 6)

Invites visitors to consider how migrants create a sense of belonging in new countries. Through artworks and objects drawn from the Gallery's collection, this exhibition considers how people make, sustain, and see home.

A Country Practice (Gallery 5)

Brings Janina Green's seminal artist book into the Gallery space, using photography to reflect on the lives of the 75,000 migrants who arrived in Australia in 1949. It offers a powerful insight into post-war migration and the courage it took to begin again in a new land.

Homeground: Continuing Connections (Gallery 4)

Centres on the Kurec family's Ukrainian heritage. Through sculpture, painting, photography, installation and treasured family artefacts, the exhibition tells a moving story of migration, loss, cultural preservation and the passing of traditions across generations.

The Land as Witness (Galleries 1 and 2)

Explores the evolving relationship between people and the natural environment. Featuring photography, sculpture and mixed media from the Gallery's collection, the artworks explore how the land absorbs and records the traces of human presence.

Earthsong (Gallery 3)

Showcases the work of acclaimed South Gippsland artist Lucy Hersey. Using locally gathered earth pigments, the exhibition focuses on deep connections to the Land, celebrating Gippsland's landscapes while calling for care, respect and responsibility for the places that sustain us.

Latrobe City Council Mayor, Councillor Sharon Gibson invited the community to check out the Gallery this Autumn season. "Come and have a look at the different exhibitions on display here and see what it says to you about people's journey into Australia. On Australia Day this year, we held a Citizenship Ceremony where we welcomed over 59 people from 21 countries - the story of migration continues in this beautiful country," said the Mayor.

Community members are encouraged to explore the full range of upcoming public programs and events at Latrobe Regional Gallery website. When visiting the Gallery be sure to check out the recently opened Mainstreet Cafe.
