South Gippsland Shire Council Connect with council sessions continue, alongside updates on waste services, kinder registrations, community events, exhibitions, safety initiatives, planning matters and local opportunities.

Our recent Connect with Council session was a great opportunity for community members to meet with councillors, share their thoughts and discuss matters important to South Gippsland. Councillors truly appreciated everyone who took the time to come along. These relaxed sessions are designed to encourage respectful, open conversations and ensure community voices are heard.

Connect with council sessions encourage open community discussion with councillors, with next meeting 2 September in Port Welshpool and monthly Meet the Mayor sessions available

The next Connect with council session will be held on Wednesday 2 September in Port Welshpool. No bookings are required - just come along. Venue details will be shared closer to the date. You can also connect directly with our Mayor through the monthly Meet the Mayor sessions, held on the second Tuesday of each month from 9.00am to 11.00am.

Meetings can be held in person at council’s main office (9 Smith Street, Leongatha) or online via Microsoft Teams, and run for up to 30 minutes. The next session is this Tuesday (9 June). FOGO: Caddies are Arriving!

From this week onwards, caddies (and new bins where required) will be delivered as part of the new kerbside waste collection service mandated by the Victorian government.

In residential areas, your new caddy will be placed inside your fence or property line. In some areas, you may be receiving a bin too. In this instance, your caddy will be cable tied to your bin and left at your gate or within your property line.

Kinder Registrations

Kinder Registrations are closing soon but don't worry, it’s a breeze to register! Simply complete the online form and select your top three preferences. Submit your registration by 30 June to receive a first-round offer. To register, head to South Gippsland Shire Council website.

Impounded Vehicle and Notice of Sale

Council impounded the following vehicle in accordance with Schedule 11 of the Local Government Act 1989 on 29 May from Brumley Street, Leongatha.

  • Holden Station Wagon
  • Colour: White
  • Year: 2010
  • VIN Number: 6G1EK8EV0BL520487

Unless the vehicle is collected and relevant fees paid by 12 June 2026, the vehicle will be offered for sale to the public.

Council impounded the following vehicle in accordance with Schedule 11 of the Local Government Act 1989.

  • Holden Sedan from Massimo Way, Korumburra (impounded 29 April 2026).
  • Colour: Blue
  • Year: 1998
  • VIN Number: 6H8VTL69HWL355191

As this vehicle has not been collected and relevant fees paid within 14 days of impoundment, the vehicle will now be offered for sale to the public. For enquiries, contact Community Safety on 5662 9200.

Bacchus: A New Creative Exhibition

Bacchus is the latest project to emerge from council's ArtCube residency program. The exhibition is curated by Jasmin McNeill and features works by four local artists, Fiona Blandford, Jan Learmonth, Sarah Parkes and Ellen Taylor.

Each artist created new works in response to the wine making process and surrounding landscape of Fleet Wines in Leongatha, who recently hosted the red ArtCube. Bacchus opens first at the Fleet cellar door for three days from this Saturday 6 June, before travelling to Coal Creek in Korumburra for an extended winter showing until August.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day (WEAAD)

Each year, 15 June is an opportunity to acknowledge and stand against elder abuse in our community. Estimates suggest as many as 1 in 6 older people may be experiencing elder abuse, which can take many different forms and is often invisible.

Renew Sustainable Living Series

We’ve partnered with neighbouring councils and non-profit organisation Renew to deliver a series of webinars focused on making your home and community more sustainable.

The free 90-minute sessions are designed to equip you with the tools to save money, energy and the environment through sustainable tips and tricks.

  • Winter Comfort for Renters - Thursday 9 July from 7.00pm to 8.30pm

Half Price Travel

Public transport in Victoria, including V-line services, is half price for everyone, every day, from 1 June 2026 until 1 January 2027.
