Olympic trap upgrade

This investment is part of Labor's Regional Sports Infrastructure Program and builds on a record investment in competition-grade sporting and community facilities for the region. The upgrades at Gippsland's only Olympic trap shooting facility have delivered:

  • Two new Olympic trap shooting ranges
  • New player shelters
  • Separation fencing
  • LED lighting
  • Armoury
  • Maintenance shed
  • More accessible car parking

More than 100 people across 19 businesses contributed to the project - boosting the local economy. Operating for more than 80 years, Morwell Gun Club moved to its current home in 2024 with the support of the Labor's Shooting Sports Facilities Program. It produced champions including club president Todd Malone, who is a two-time National Champion as well as ten-time Victorian state representative.

This is one of 18 projects across regional Victoria backed by the Regional Sports Infrastructure Program including the Gippsland Regional Indoor Sports Stadium, Gippsland Sports and Entertainment Park and Moe's Ted Summerton Reserve. To learn more, visit Sport and Recreation Victoria website.

World-class shooting facility

Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing said, "Gippsland's clay target shooters now have world-class facilities for training and competition right here in the Valley - it's a great result for the Club and its members, and it's been a real privilege to advocate for this important local investment. With the popularity of field sports booming, these upgrades are another important way we're keeping people active, connected, and competitive."

Morwell Gun Club President, Todd Malone said, "Having a world class facility such as this locally will be a major advantage for potential and aspiring Olympic athletes to train. It will save hours of time and money commuting back and forth to Melbourne. Gippsland has produced some fantastic shooters over the years and being able to train locally will hopefully help future champions to take that next step."
