Gippsland music star

Mr Chester met Megan at the 2025 ABC Parliament House Showcase in Canberra, where she represented her new television series Front Row, which features some of Australia’s leading contemporary classical performances. "Megan Burslem is a wonderful example of Gippsland talent shining on the national stage. Her passion for classical music, combined with her commitment to education and improving regional access, is helping to introduce a new generation of Australians to this art form."

A violist, educator and researcher, Megan hosts Classic Breakfast on ABC Classic and fronts Front Row, now airing on ABC and ABC iview. Her impressive academic achievements include a Bachelor of Music (Hons), Bachelor of Arts, Master of Music (Performance), Master of Teaching (Secondary) and a PhD in musicology and ethnomusicology.

Celebrating music talent

Mr Chester said Megan’s accomplishments highlight both her talent and her dedication to sharing music with communities across the country. "All this from a kid who went to Lakes Entrance Secondary College and now provides an example to all regional students to never sell themselves short," Mr Chester said.

"Megan’s commitment to improving access to music education, particularly in regional communities, is something to be celebrated, and she’s an inspiring advocate for the value of the arts in Australian life," Mr Chester said.

Mr Chester encouraged Gippslanders to tune into Front Row, describing it as an engaging entry point for viewers who may feel classical music is "not for them". Megan brings a fresh, modern voice to classical music. She has a unique ability to make the genre accessible and enjoyable for a broad audience, and I’d encourage people to watch her program and see just how exciting Australian classical performance can be."
