Darren Chester welcomes nearing completion of $2.2M Ensay Recreation Reserve redevelopment project
Darren Chester welcomed nearing completion of the $2.2 million Ensay Recreation Reserve redevelopment, praising community volunteers. The project delivers modern facilities, boosting sport, tourism, resilience, and connections.
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester has welcomed progress on the $2.2 million redevelopment of the Ensay Recreation Reserve, with works now nearing completion. Mr Chester said the project was the result of years of community advocacy and partnership between local volunteers, the federal government and East Gippsland Shire Council.
Darren Chester commended Kath Morgan, the committee, and residents, highlighting their teamwork in planning, funding, and delivering Ensay Recreation Reserve redevelopment
Community hub revitalised
Mr Chester said, "The Ensay Recreation Reserve is more than just a sporting facility. It's a vital community hub, an important gathering place throughout the year, and a critical asset in times of disaster. It also plays a growing role as a camping and tourism destination, so these upgrades will benefit both locals and visitors for many years to come."
The revitalisation works will deliver a new multi-purpose facility, equipped with new laundry, shower, bathroom and kitchen facilities, new multi-sports playing surfaces, new and improved lighting and renovations to the angling club facilities, ensuring the reserve is modern, functional, and accessible for the whole community.
Local project success
Mr Chester paid tribute to Kath Morgan and the entire Ensay Recreation Reserve Committee, as well as local residents who worked tirelessly to develop the project plans and secure funding. "This is a fantastic example of what can be achieved when communities work together. The volunteers at Ensay have put in countless hours to bring this project to life, and I was proud to work alongside them to secure Federal funding."
Mr Chester said the nearing completion of the Ensay Recreation Reserve redevelopment represented another important step in strengthening the resilience and liveability of smaller towns across East Gippsland. "This project is about investing in the future of our community and making sure we have the facilities we need to support local sport, tourism and community connections," he said.
