Internationally renowned social entrepreneur comes to Gippsland

mecu, Federation Health, GippsTAFE and Latrobe City are hosting the first Gippsland Community Business Breakfast for 2004 at the Waratah Restaurant in Morwell on the Wednesday 21 April.

By Latrobe Shire Council - 14th April 2004 - Back to News

The guest speaker for the breakfast is renowned social entrepreneur Reverend Nic Frances MBE.

The topic of Reverend Frances’ address is ‘Building Successful Partnerships - The Art of Listening’. The premise of his presentation will be that successful partnerships go beyond the desire to simply conduct transactions.

"True partnerships are based on mutual agreement that even though the partners do not always understand each other, they are prepared to learn from each other, and that is an ongoing process. The moment that this process stops, the partnership will cease to function effectively," Reverend Frances explained.

The Gippsland Community Business Breakfasts are held four times a year and were developed to provide local people from business and community with the opportunity to listen to informative guest speakers who are successful leaders in their own community or industry.

Approximately 120 people come from across Gippsland to hear recognised leaders talk about subjects that are relevant to local business and community development.

The four community partners - mecu, Federation Health, GippsTAFE and Latrobe City underwrite the cost of hosting the speakers and holding the breakfast, because they recognise the benefit to the broader community.

Latrobe City’s Chief Executive Officer, Richard Hancock, said Latrobe was delighted to be supporting the Gippsland Community Business Breakfast in 2004.

"Latrobe City has regularly attended these breakfasts over the past couple of years. They are an opportunity for the community to hear the latest thinking from people recognised as leaders in their field," Mr Hancock said.

There is also a firm commitment by the supporters of the program to encourage networking.

Mecu Group Manager Marketing and Development, Rowan Dowland, said

Nic Frances had been approached to kick start this year’s program because Gippsland leaders can learn much from his entrepreneurial approach to social issues.

"We put a lot of time and effort into finding a key speaker, and because Reverend Frances had been working with mecu in Melbourne, he kindly agreed to part of the series," Mr Dowland said.

Seats at the Gippsland Community Business Breakfast are still available for more information contact Pat Coles on 0428 746 207.
