Promoting healthy habits

Mr Chester said the initiative uses music, movement and play to help families build healthier eating habits. "It’s a fun and practical campaign that encourages children to enjoy more fruit and vegetables and helps families turn good intentions into everyday habits. Despite strong awareness among parents of the importance of healthy diets, only 4% of Australian children currently meet the recommended daily intake of fruit and vegetables."

Mr Chester said the campaign also comes at an important time for Australia’s fruit and vegetable growers. "Our growers are doing it tough, facing rising costs, workforce pressures and challenging conditions, all while producing some of the highest quality food in the world. This campaign brings the whole industry together to tackle two important challenges: improving children’s diets and supporting the farmers who grow our fresh produce."

Healthy eating encouraged

Mr Chester said the campaign was built on a simple but effective idea. "If kids are excited about fruit and vegetables, they’ll ask for them, and we know children have a strong influence on what ends up in the shopping trolley. With a familiar tune and a positive message, ‘Fruit and Veggies Yummy Yummy’ is helping families make healthier choices through recipes, resources and activities."

Mr Chester encouraged families across Gippsland to get involved and learn more about the initiative. "This is a great campaign for healthier kids and stronger support for Australian growers," he said. For more information, visit The Wiggles website.
