By news@gippsland - 15th October 2025 - Back to News The Nationals Member for Gippsland South, Danny O'Brien says it's a relief to finally see progress on the long-awaited Sealers Cove walking track repairs at Wilsons Promontory. Mr O'Brien said it has now been four years since the popular track was destroyed in the October 2021 storms and it will be at least another six months before it reopens. 
Danny O'Brien welcomed progress at Tidal River, noting upcoming footbridge completion and campground upgrades, praising long-overdue maintenance that will improve facilities ahead of the busy summer season Sealers Cove delayedMr O'Brien said, "The Allan Labor government promised this work years ago and has been dragging its feet ever since. "We were first told the project would be completed in 2024, then it was pushed back to 2025 and now we find it won't be open until autumn 2026. That's nearly five years since the damage occurred. It's yet another example of how regional projects get put to the bottom of the pile under Labor." Mr O'Brien said he understood that Envirotechniques had been awarded the contract, with preparatory works now taking place and construction expected to begin in late November. "I'm pleased to see some movement at last. The Prom is one of Victoria's greatest natural assets and a vital part of our local tourism economy. Leaving a track like Sealers Cove closed for years has hurt local businesses and visitors alike." Upgrades boost tourismMr O'Brien also acknowledged progress on other works at Tidal River, including upgrades to the footbridge and campground facilities. "The footbridge works are expected to be open in early December, which is great news ahead of the summer season. Renovations are also underway on the toilet and shower blocks, and while it will mean some short-term inconvenience for campers, it's good to see overdue maintenance finally happening." Mr O'Brien said the people of Gippsland South deserve better than years of delay on basic infrastructure and visitor facilities. "Labor talks big about supporting tourism, but when it comes to actually delivering for regional areas like Gippsland we are often left waiting.
