Shire Welcomes Land Tax Relief

East Gippsland Shire CEO Steve Kozlowski has welcomed cuts to Land Tax announced in the State Government’s Budget this week.

"This is good news and has the potential to take financial pressure off some of our local businesses," he said.

"Land tax cuts will apply for small businesses and investors with properties valued at $750,000 to $2.7 million, and there are a number of these in East Gippsland."

Mr Kozlowski also welcomed the increase in threshold at which land tax starts on properties other than the family home that is to lift from $175,00 to $200,000.

"But we see this as the start of the reform process and we look forward to further relief in forthcoming budgets so that business competitiveness is improved and investment is stimulated."

Mr Kozlowski said the State Government has also responded to calls to support local rural and regional communities through investment in infrastructure, including road and rail networks.

"The Shire continually advocates for other levels of government to invest in infrastructure in rural and regional Victoria where communities are particularly limited in their own capacity to fund projects of significance due to their smaller population bases.

"We are particularly pleased to see the State Government providing a boost of $10 million to the Regional Infrastructure Development Fund for capital works supporting new industry development, linking transport infrastructure and improving tourism facilities in regional Victoria," he said.

Spending on native vegetation management is another welcome example of improved dealings between the State Government and local government in Victoria.
