Shire Investigating Low Cost Business Mentoring

East Gippsland Shire Council’s Economic Development unit is investigating the provision of low cost professional mentoring and is seeking the support of local business people for the plan.

By East Gippsland Shire Council - 16th January 2006 - Back to News

Business support officer Sandra Bailey said that many business operators get so caught up in their day-to-day operations that they don’t have time to sit back and reflect on where their business is heading either financially or strategically.

"We are developing a plan to offer them the opportunity to spend regular time with an experienced business person who will help them keep a focus on the bigger picture," she said.

"In order to support our proposal for funding from the Federal Government, we need to hear from business owners and managers who may be interested in accessing this new service."

Ms Bailey said the mentors would listen, gather facts and offer opinions but any subsequent action that is then up to the business operator.

She said the Shire hoped to obtain funding to substantially subsidise the resources to steer business people towards professionals including accountants, solicitors and professional business advisers if it was thought to be beneficial

To get the program off the ground Ms Bailey needs to receive expressions of interest from the business community before 26 January 2006.
