Submit your written feedback on adopted Yarragon Township Plans until 26 April 2026

Baw Baw Shire Council is extending community consultation on the Yarragon Township Plan and rezoning from 13-26 April 2026, inviting feedback before the May Council decision and Ministerial process consideration process.

Baw Baw Shire Council is encouraging residents and businesses to have their say on the adopted Yarragon Township Plan, Urban Design Framework and commercial rezoning during an additional two-week consultation period launching today.

Consultation period opens

The additional online community consultation will be open from today, Monday 13 April until 5.00pm on Sunday 26 April 2026 on Baw Baw Connect, Council’s online engagement platform. The additional online consultation period offers the community another chance to share feedback. It will run for two weeks before the matter is brought back to the May Council meeting for a decision on whether an Amendment will formally be sent to the Minister.

If Council decides to send the Amendment to the Minister, there will be another round of community consultation, as required under the Planning and Environment Act 1987. All feedback must be submitted in writing and will be considered by Council. The Yarragon Township Plan, Urban Design Framework and commercial rezoning were adopted by Council back in November 2023.

The Township Plan provides a strategic vision for Yarragon, setting out actionable strategies to guide development over the coming decades, while the Urban Design Framework offers detailed design and public realm guidelines to enhance the town centre, including its commercial and industrial areas.

Plan highlights overview

Highlights of the adopted plan include:

• Vision for Yarragon that prioritises natural environment protection, community heritage, and a diverse economy
• Six strategic objectives to ensure growth that is respectful, community-focused, and resilient
• Dedicated Urban Design Framework addressing town centre enhancements, infrastructure improvement, and landscape integration

Consideration of community feedback obtained through extensive consultation across multiple phases, including drop-in sessions, public markets, and digital platforms.

Mayor explains consultation

Baw Baw Shire Mayor Cr Kate Wilson said the additional online community engagement consultation this month has stemmed from recent community feedback received to Council. "We have heard feedback from a number of community members and will have this extra community consultation take place for two weeks while continuing to progress the planning matter and submitting both the plan and framework to the Minister."

"We want to ensure our residents are clear that this additional engagement period is not the only consultation that will be available in the future. The planning process in Victoria is thorough and with matters like this, we send the plan and framework to the Minister to implement and seek approval for this to go out for public exhibition.

"This is a standard process that takes place under the Planning and Environment Act and once we have received the Minister’s approval, we can then seek further comment and undergo another round of community consultation," Cr Wilson said.

Mayor encourages feedback

Cr Wilson added, "Any feedback from the community we receive during this additional two-week consultation period will be considered by Council. Further community consultation is anticipated to take place in the coming months, following the Minster’s approval."

"The Yarragon Township Plan and Urban Design Framework honours the heritage while embracing growth in the beautiful Baw Baw town and I am encouraging those in the community to take us up on the extra consultation opportunity and have their say in writing during this two-week window," Cr Wilson said.
