Summer is on the horizon marking the splashing start of the outdoor swimming pool season in Baw Baw Shire! From Monday 1 December until the end of March, seasonal outdoor swimming pools in Drouin, Neerim South, Thorpdale and Trafalgar, and the indoor pool at Rawson, will open for the community to enjoy. Keen swimmers can enjoy these pools during open hours when the temperature is forecast for 25 degrees or more, with exception to the indoor pool at Rawson which is open regardless of weather.

Summer pool season

Additionally, the 50-metre outdoor swimming pool at the Warragul Leisure Centre boasts an extended open season from November to the end of April, open daily regardless of weather. Once again, the outdoor swimming pool in Thorpdale will offer free swimming throughout the summer season, supported by the Thorpdale Swimming Pool Committee.

Baw Baw Shire Mayor Councillor Kate Wilson is encouraging residents to enjoy the local pools when they open next month. "We’re fortunate to have several fantastic indoor and outdoor swimming pools in many locations across Baw Baw Shire. These pools provide a great opportunity to get outdoors, have fun, connect with friends and beat the summer heat in a safe environment close to home."

"With the closest beach over an hour away from most of our Shire, these pools provide a fun day out for the whole family - regardless of age and ability. Most facilities have a shaded splash pool area suitable for little ones, as well as lanes to enjoy swimming at your own pace. We invite everyone to make the most of these great facilities over the holiday period" Cr Wilson said.

Pool weather updates

Throughout the outdoor swimming pool season, weather conditions are determined by the Bureau of Meteorology forecasts for Warragul, which are looked at a week in advance and revised daily. The pools may close prior to or during thunderstorm activity or in extreme weather conditions.

All swimming pools are managed by the YMCA on behalf of Baw Baw Shire Council. For more information about open days and weather impacts, swimmers can contact the YMCA on 5623 4017 or visit the Bureau of Meteorology website.
