Melina Bath honours Wonthaggi Rotary Club for 32 years recognising volunteers and strengthening Eastern Victoria

Melina Bath recognised Wonthaggi Rotary Club in parliament for 32 years celebrating local volunteers, presenting over 250 awards, and strengthening Eastern Victoria communities through service and dedication.

The Nationals Member Eastern Victoria, Melina Bath has formally recognised the Wonthaggi Rotary Club in state parliament, commending its long‑standing commitment to celebrating local volunteers. "For 32 years the Wonthaggi Rotary Club has honoured individuals who contribute deeply to our region. More than 250 service awards have been presented and a proud tradition continued at this year’s Australia Day event."

Honouring local volunteers

Ms Bath thanked Rotary President Leah Montebello and the organising team Brett Tessari, Ashley Lamers, Don Paproth, John Duscher, Graham Sprague, and Ray McCurry for hosting a warm and meaningful celebration of service. "Rotary shines a light on the quiet achievers who strengthen our communities," she said.

Ms Bath placed the following award recipients on the parliamentary record:

  • Community Service Awards - Elwyn and Jean Matthews, John Walsh, Jamie Moresco
  • Community and Sports Award - Russell Cargill
  • Environment, Conservation and Arts Award - Geoff Glare and Anne Looney
  • Spirit of the Community Award - Wonthaggi SES Unit

The Citizen of the Year recipient was Rodney McLean, recognised for decades of volunteer work. "Rodney is the essence of community spirit. A life member of the CFA, long serving volunteer with Uncle Bob’s Club and the Friends of the State Coal Mine, he gives generously and without fanfare." Ms Bath expressed her gratitude to all volunteers and to Rotary for its enduring contribution. "Rotary’s commitment to celebrating service makes our region stronger," she said.
