Council tendering for Island transfer station

Bass Coast Shire Council will soon go to tender for transfer station on Phillip Island.

By Portal Admin - 25th July 2017 - Back to News

At the July Ordinary meeting, Council resolved to proceed to a selected tender process for the siting, design, construction of the Phillip Island Resource Recovery Centre.

In late February Council went to the market seeking Expressions of Interest for a new transfer station on Phillip Island. This allowed Council to test the market and gain a more detailed understanding of market interest, costs, and the range of solutions that may be available to provide a facility on the Island.

Council will now prepare the documents to for a selective tender process and invite a number of the EOI submitters to prepare submissions.

With the tender documents being prepared and going to the market in September, a report will come to Council for consideration in February 2018.

Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Pamela Rothfield, said the majority of information is commercial in confidence, meaning details could not be public at this stage.

"We want to make sure there is a competitive process to make sure the community gets best value for money," Cr Rothfield said.

"The industry sector is up to date with all the latest innovation and we hope to capitalise on this knowledge."

Council will consider and make provision within its Long term Financial Plan and Strategic Resource Plan for the resources required for the project to move forward where a favourable tender process is achieved. Whilst Council works through this process the public place recycling facility on Dunsmore Road, Cowes provides a municipal waste facility where residents can dispose of their household and garden waste.
