Bass Coast invites youth and community to shape Wonthaggi active youth space through design consultation until 7 June 2026

Bass Coast Shire Council is calling out for young people to get involved in the design of the new Wonthaggi Active Youth Space (WAYS). The area is located where the current Wonthaggi skate park is and we’re looking to redevelop the skate park, add a playspace and other active elements to really transform this area into a safe place where young people can go to hang out and be social and active.

Youth space ideas

Bass Coast Mayor, Cr Brett Tessari is excited to hear the ideas of local young people. "I can’t wait to hear all the ideas for this space, and we’re really pleased to be able to partner with Bass Coast College to find out what young people want to see."

"We have had over 70 students apply to be part of a 4-week collaborative design process as part of the project. Of the 70 applications, 20 students from Year 8 to Year 10 were selected to be involved directly in a series of design workshops throughout May with Council officers and designers from PLAYCE."

"However, our consultation is not limited to this group, we’re inviting everyone young and old to get involved by filling out our survey or coming to chat with us," Cr Tessari said. We’re holding a drop-in session where you can come and have a chat about what you’d like to see and share your ideas:

  • Monday, 25 May
  • 4:00pm to 5:30pm
  • Bass Coast Aquatic and Leisure Centre, Wentworth Road, Wonthaggi

The online survey is available on Engage Bass Coast website. Consultation is open until 7 June 2026.
