Omeo Caravan Park remedial works get high priority from East Gippsland Shire Council so opened in time for Easter

East Gippsland Shire Council is committed to having the Omeo Caravan Park reopened in time for Easter.

By news@gippsland - 21st February 2022 - Back to News

A flood in early January caused well-documented damage to the park and amenities, local roads and other public facilities such as Livingstone Park and the pump track. Council has made remedial action a priority in Omeo and surrounds. General Manager Business Excellence Peter Cannizzaro said it was likely to take until Easter for flood remedial works to be completed at the Omeo Caravan Park, after which time the park will reopen.

Omeo Caravan Park will reopen in April, the facility offers a wide range of on-site vans, cabins and tents, each well-appointed with everything you need to make your stay a relaxed and pleasant experience

Bookings available

Mr Cannizzaro said, "The current lease for the park ends on 31 March and Council is in the process of appointing a caretaker manager to commence as soon as possible from 1 April 2022." Until a caretaker is in place, council's Omeo Service Centre will, effective immediately, take enquiries regarding existing and future bookings. Please call 5153 9500.

Existing bookings

Where provided with confirmation of bookings Council will update the booking register. Anyone cancelling a booking will be noted, but refunds will be the responsibility of the current tenant until 31 March 2022. After that date more information will be made available

New bookings

The Omeo Service Centre is only taking bookings for Easter (Friday 15 April) onwards. Tentative bookings can be made for 1-14 April but will be dependent on the park reopening prior to Easter. Signs at the park entry and on the old Omeo Highway (Great Alpine Road turnoff) advise that the park is closed, and that enquiries and bookings can be made through the Omeo Service Centre.

Facilities available on the site

With the Omeo dump point currently unavailable, the nearest public dump points are at Dinner Plain car park and Bruthen Caravan Park. With the support of the Omeo Recreation Reserve Committee of Management, free camping is available at the Omeo Recreation Reserve until the caravan park reopens. Due to other event bookings at the reserve, free camping is not available on 15-17 April.

For people seeking alternate camping, the nearest site is at Swifts Creek Caravan and Tourist Park, with powered and unpowered sites and amenities. "Council has placed a high priority on remedial works, reopening the park and providing free interim camping to support the business community and visitor economy in the Omeo Region," Mr Cannizzaro said.
