Latrobe City Council is investing $1.95 million in this year's program, which covers roads in all four major towns including Churchill, Moe/Newborough, Morwell and Traralgon. Several rural roads in Boolarra, Callignee, Driffield, Glengarry, Hazelwood North, Moe South, Toongabbie, Yallourn North and Yinnar will also be included in the program.

The road reseal program ensures the spray seal provides a new waterproof barrier, preventing failures in the pavement, also provides a more skid resistant surface, resulting in safer roads

Ensuring long lasting seals

Prior to resealing, roads are inspected for defects and patched to ensure the new seal lasts as long as possible. An additional $3.3 million investment is expected for these works.

Latrobe City Council's Chief Executive Officer Steven Piasente said it was vital to invest in road maintenance to ensure the road network is safe and kept at a good quality. "Resealing provides a waterproof barrier for our roads, which extends their lifespan and reduces the need for maintenance. This year 162 road segments will be resealed across Latrobe City.

Delays due to weather

Mr Piasente also said, "We have experienced some delays due to the recent heavy rain and it is expected that works will continue over the summer months with the full program completed by April 2023."

"Residents on impacted streets have been given more information and will be notified before their section will be resealed. Community members are reminded to drive with care when they come across new seals as loose stones and no lines can be expected for the first few days," said Mr Piasente.
