Wellington Shire Council adopts four-year plans aligning with Community Vision 2041 to guide sustainable growth
Wellington Shire Council adopted key strategic plans aligning with Community Vision 2041, shaped by extensive community input, guiding infrastructure, wellbeing, sustainability, and accountability through the upcoming Future Wellington website.
Together, these plans set the strategic direction for Council over the next four years and to work towards realising the Community Vision 2041. The adoption of these plans marks the successful completion of the Future Wellington project, which began in July 2024 with an extensive community engagement process. More than 1,900 responses were received through surveys, workshops, competitions and postcards.
Adoption of these plans concludes Future Wellington, launched July 2024, shaped by 1,900 responses and 22-member community Think Tank
Shaping Wellington's future
A key contributor to shaping the long-term direction of the municipality was the Future Wellington Think Tank, a panel representative of the community, comprising 22 participants. Wellington Shire Council Mayor Cr Scott Rossetti said the outcome is a true reflection of the community's needs and priorities.
"These plans really are led by the community. They capture the ideas, concerns and aspirations of people right across Wellington, and they will help us to build communities where everyone can feel proud to live, work and belong."
"I want to thank the Future Wellington Think Tank participants and every single person who took the time to share their thoughts. Whether it was at a workshop, through a postcard, or an online survey. Together, you've shaped the future of Wellington, and that's something to celebrate," Mayor Rossetti said.
Future focused planning
The Council Plan 2025-29 details the strategic objectives, strategies, major initiatives and actions to be delivered over the next four years. It aligns with the Community Vision and informs annual budgeting and reporting, guiding decision-making and investment to ensure Council delivers on community expectations.
The Financial Plan sets a clear and responsible pathway for how the Council will resource its strategic objectives. It forecasts income, expenditure, and funding needs to support strategic goals and service delivery, while balancing affordability with long-term sustainability.
The Asset Plan details how Council will manage and renew its infrastructure - from roads and footpaths to parks, buildings and community facilities - to ensure they meet the needs of the community by remaining safe, functional and accessible for the years ahead.
Stronger together Wellington
The Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan - Live Well in Wellington is a key strategic roadmap for Council to work in partnership with other health and community organisations. It focuses on improving the health, safety and wellbeing of residents, addressing local challenges and supporting opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to thrive.
The Community Vision 2041, adopted earlier this year, was developed in partnership with the community, providing the foundation for the new strategic documents. It outlines the long-term aspirations and guiding principles for the Wellington Shire, which focus on creating connected and inclusive communities, supporting a dynamic and diverse economy, building resilience in the environment, and ensuring a sustainable future.
To continue this journey, Council will soon launch the new Future Wellington website - an online hub that brings the plans and Community Vision 2041 to life. The site will allow residents to explore the key strategic documents in one place, see how Council is tracking against strategic objectives through a custom-built performance dashboard, discover updates and projects, and find new ways to stay engaged in the work Council is doing to shape the Shire's future.
Stay connected Wellington
Mayor Rossetti said the upcoming launch of the website is about keeping the conversation going. "Future Wellington doesn't end with the adoption of the key plans. It's just the beginning. The website will make it easy for everyone to follow our progress, see what's being delivered, and stay connected to the bigger picture."
"It's about transparency, accountability and making sure our community remains at the heart of everything we do. We've set the course together, and Future Wellington will help us walk this journey side by side," he said.
The Council Plan 2025-29, Financial Plan, Asset Plan and Municipal Public Health and Wellbeing Plan - Live Well in Wellington are now available at Wellington Shire Council website. The Future Wellington website will go live in the coming weeks and be shared with the community.
