Wellington Shire Council has launched the second stage of its Future Wellington project and is now seeking expressions of interest to join a community based think tank. The Future Wellington Think Tank will be a diverse, community-driven group, aimed at guiding the next Community Vision, Council Plan, and related sub-plans.

Participants will engage in interactive workshops to review community feedback, gain insights, and shape Wellington’s future, with 14 hours' commitment and tech support

Diverse perspectives wanted

Composed of 25-30 people, the think tank will represent a broad range of perspectives, including those of different ages, genders, and household types. The group will also seek participation from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, LGBTQIA+ individuals, those who are culturally and linguistically diverse and people with disabilities.

Participants will engage in a series of interactive workshops where they will consider community feedback, learn from experts, share ideas, and contribute to shaping the future of Wellington. The full commitment will be approximately 14 hours, and support will be available for those needing assistance with technology.

Join future workshops

Workshops will be held on 1 February 2025 from 10am to 3pm (in person). Online sessions will be held on 6 and 13 February 2025 from 6pm to 8pm and 20 February 2025 from 6pm to 9pm. Residents with a connection to Wellington Shire are encouraged to apply and share their voice. To register for the Future Wellington Think Tank, visit Your Wellington, Your Say website.

Applicants will be required to complete a brief form and share why they want to join and contribute to recommendations, helping Council plan for the future of Wellington. Anyone wishing to register in person or over the phone should visit a Customer Service Centre in either Sale or Yarram, or call 1300 366 244 during business hours. Successful applicants will be advised in late December 2024.

Empowering community voices

Wellington Shire Council CEO, David Morcom shares his enthusiasm for this stage of consultation, stating that the Future Wellington Think Tank is a unique opportunity for our community to have a direct say in shaping the future of the region.

"We want to ensure a broad representation of voices so that Wellington continues to reflect the diverse needs and aspirations of all who call it home. By bringing together people from all walks of life, the think tank will harness the creativity and insight of our local community, helping us make informed decisions that will benefit Wellington for years to come." Mr Morcom said.
