Library set to open in new Heyfield Hub community complex

Wellington Shire Council is pleased to announce that its Heyfield Public Library will be re-opening at the new $740,000 Heyfield Hub community complex on 14 October – the first phase of this eagerly-awaited project to come online.

The library will remain open at its present temporary location at Shop 3, 58-60 Temple Street, until Friday 8 October. It will then re-open at 2pm on Thursday 14 October in the Heyfield Hub at 38 McFarlane Street, with normal operating hours resuming.

This relocation period will see council staff working hard to bring the library’s resources and facilities including book and audio-visual loans, internet access, children’s storytimes and programs to the new site.

Work on the new Heyfield Hub complex is very close to completion and comprises:

  • a dramatic expansion of the library from 38 sq.m to 230 sq.m, to enable a big increase in the number of books and audio-visual items stocked, along with a new dedicated area for PCs;
  • a Federal Government-funded multi-purpose Rural Transaction Centre - with meeting rooms and facilities for visiting essential service providers;
  • an upgrade of the hall;
  • new toilet facilities;
  • installation of a ramp to improve access to the complex for those with a disability.

An official opening of the new complex is due to be conducted before the end of the year. Anyone who would like more information about the relocation should call 1300 366 244 or visit the library.

Said Wellington’s Mayor Jeff Amos: "The council is delighted to be providing its library services from the new site at the Heyfield Hub. The long-awaited project will provide a fantastic resource centre for the residents of Heyfield and the surrounding area, and has been made possible thanks to Victorian and Federal Government funding, along with substantial contributions from the council and the Heyfield community."
