Council Moves To Remove Stock Movement Permits

East Gippsland Shire Councillors last night voted to implement the recommendation made at their May 10 meeting to remove the permit impost on the movement of stock on roads.

By East Gippsland Shire Council - 27th July 2005 - Back to News

At the May meeting it was moved "that council staff prepare a draft local law as a matter of urgency as an amendment to general local law 2000 that states that no permit is required when moving livestock on or across roads in the East Gippsland Shire".

Councillors endorsed a variation to the proposed ‘Abolition of Permits for the Movement of Livestock Local Law 2005.’

The new law will now provide that livestock can be moved on or across any road in the municipality without the need for a permit.

Council officers will now proceed with the statutory process to have this new Local Law exhibited and call for written submissions from the public in accordance with the Local Government Act 1989.

A committee comprising all Councillors will hear and consider any written submissions received relating to the draft Local Law.

The intention of the recommendation was to remove the current requirement for a permit and associated fee for the movement of livestock on or across a Council road within the Shire.
