Council invites submissions on updated planning guidelines for the shire

Wellington Shire Council is inviting written submissions from the community on proposed updates to its policy guiding planning development in the shire.

By Wellington Shire Council - 26th May 2005 - Back to News

Every three years councils have to review the Municipal Strategic Statement (MSS) component of their planning schemes (in this case the Wellington Planning Scheme), as required by the Planning & Environment Act.

Wellington Shire has just completed its review and is proposing some amendments as a result – known collectively as C25 – which are aimed at improving the effectiveness and usability of the Wellington Planning Scheme in guiding planning decisions and appropriate development.

C25, together with accompanying documents, is available for inspection until Monday 20 June at the council’s Sale Service Centre, 70 Foster Street and its Yarram Service Centre, 156 Grant Street. A copy is also on the council’s website at www.wellington.vic.gov.au

Written submissions on the amendments need to be sent to: Ray Smith, Strategic Planner, Wellington Shire Council, Port of Sale Civic Centre, 70 Foster Street (PO Box 506), Sale, Vic 3850.

He can also be contacted on the telephone to answer any queries on 5142 3351.

The deadline for submissions is 5.30pm on Monday 20 June.

Said Wellington’s Chief Executive Officer Lyndon Webb: "As part of our commitment to provide our community with a well targeted, efficient and effective planning process we need to make sure that we have practical, appropriate and up-to-date planning guidelines in place. The proposed C25 amendments are designed to help ensure this, addressing the needs of the shire community as a whole.

We are keen to implement C25 in the Wellington Planning Scheme as soon as we can this year and written submissions received from property owners and occupiers will be carefully considered before we make a final decision on the proposed amendments and submit these to the Minister for Planning for approval. However, if an independent planning panel needs to be appointed by the Minister, this would necessarily extend the date of implementation."
