and growth in our municipality, but that require Federal or State government assistance to proceed.

Securing Our Future 2013 also celebrates a number of successes, including the provision of funding under the Regional Development Australia Fund and Latrobe Valley Industry and Infrastructure Fund to several local businesses, and the Latrobe Regional Airport.

Latrobe City mayor, Councillor Sandy Kam, said that the original Securing Our Future document was produced in 2011 as a companion document to Council’s low carbon transition policy.

"The mantra then was ‘jobs, jobs, jobs’, and in 2013 that hasn’t changed. Securing Our Future 2013 represents our immediate asks from the Victorian and Australian Governments. The document lays out clearly the local projects, opportunities and initiatives that, if met, will provide jobs and help our economy to proactively transition to a low carbon future".

"Latrobe City Council is proactively seeking support from all levels of government, for projects that will benefit our community long into the future. Council supports projects in three broad areas: new uses for the brown coal resource; economic diversification; and liveability.

"Council supports the sustainable use of brown coal and recognises that it is valuable for many uses, not just power generation. We continue to seek Government support for research and development into sustainable uses of brown coal and have a number of major projects close to approval. We are also well placed for commercial and industrial development and we take this opportunity to invite all potential investors and government representatives to speak with us to discuss any of the projects contained in the document.

"Council has an ambitious program of planned upgrades of recreational and community facilities to complement our jobs strategy, and will continue to work to implement these so that Latrobe City remains a diverse and vibrant regional city to live, work and play," Cr Kam concluded.
